For the 2016 season, we have positions available for: two chefs at each lodge, one chef at the La Baleine Cafe in Homer, three cooks at the La Baleiene Cafe, and one cooking school instructor.
Lodge-based chefs -At Within The Wild Adventure Company, we believe in quality, especially in our kitchens. In our award-winning fine-dining kitchens, we prepare our foods from scratch. We use local Alaska products when possible, grow seasonal gardens, and serve innovative and exciting cuisine to both our guests and to our staff.
Chefs in our kitchens are professionals who work closely together as a team to create seasonal menus that are some of the most innovative cuisine served in Alaska.
Our chefs are part of our leadership and management teams. We look for chefs at Winterlake Lodge and Tutka Bay Lodge who can contribute to our guests’ Alaskan adventure through insightful cooking demos, inspiring cuisine, and a passion for infusing the local food narrative into each dish. A strong candidate can work in a remote environment, exhibit advanced professional skills, and take pride in “at the stove” work. Lodge chefs need to prepare three meals daily for guests and staff, and should be proficient in catering to specific dietary restrictions.
La Baleine Cafe – We operate a small 5-table cafe in the seaside village of Homer. We are looking for one chef manager who can oversee day-to-day cafe operations, manage employees, order and manage food inventory, and cook. We hire several cooks, servers, and dishwashers to fill in our daily 5 AM to 4 PM work schedule. Our cafe serves organic local cuisine.
Cooking School Instructor – Tutka Bay Lodge
We are looking for a professional culinary educator interested in heading up our Cooking School at Tutka Bay. This position requires teaching three days per week, working in our lodge kitchen two days per week, and one day off. The Cooking School at Tutka Bay is housed in a 1940’s crabbing boat. Our cuisine emphasizes global inspiration utilizing local products.
