Interior Adventure

Duration 3 Nights | All - Inclusive Package Price $7,700.00 per person (not including transportation)

You will be met at your hotel for a complimentary transfer service by our air taxi to Lake Hood. Depart Anchorage at 9:00 a.m. (departure time is customizable) for a scenic float-plane flight to Winterlake Lodge. You will depart from Lake Hood, the world’s largest floatplane base and land at Winterlake Lodge, the location of an Iditarod checkpoint. Winterlake is situated approximately one hour by air northwest of Anchorage. There are opportunities to see Denali the mountain en route.

Check in to your cabin and join your hosts, Kirsten and Carl Dixon, at the main Lodge for a brief orientation to the activities and facilities at the lodge, then plan your days with your guides. Options include:

  • Hike the Iditarod Trail
  • Canoe or kayak around Winterlake
  • Extended hike to Red Lake
  • Fish for arctic grayling
  • Schedule your massage
  • Take a hot tub
  • Join in the stretch and yoga classes
  • Cooking class in the kitchen

Luncheon is served at 1:00 p.m. in the main room.  At the lodge, join us for a stretch class, dog-lot tour, garden tour, or leisurely walk along the Iditarod Trail. In the late afternoon, we offer a cooking class in the kitchen with our executive chef, appetizers and wine tasting in the main lodge bar area, and dinner at 7:00 p.m. After dinner, there is an evening education program on Alaska in the wellness room or fly-casting lessons on the lake.

Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m.

After breakfast, meet your helicopter pilot and guide for a day-long adventure outing via our Robinson R-44 helicopter. One option, fly to a majestic glacier and take a lesson in dog mushing – Or float down our nearby trophy rainbow trout river for the day. Enjoy Fly-fishing, wildlife viewing and hiking. In the afternoon, you may like lunch on the river or back at the lodge – your choice.

End your day of adventure with a nice soak in the hot tub and a dip in the lake!

Join the morning yoga class in our beautiful wellness room with views of the surrounding Tordrillo mountains. Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m.

Today, go on a leisurely hike to the saddle of Wolverine Ridge or, if you are up for an adventure, trek all the way to the summit for stunning views of Denali, the Tremble and Hayes glaciers and the entire valley.

Enjoy a gourmet lunch at the lodge served at 1:oo p.m. – homemade snacks are available at all times.

Dinner is served in the main lodge at 7:00 p.m. with activities available before and after dinner.

After breakfast, return to Anchorage via float plane arriving at 9:00 a.m. We will provide transportation to your Anchorage hotel or the Anchorage airport.

Seaside Adventure

Gather at Mako’s water taxi on the Homer Spit for your scenic 30-minute boat ride to Tutka Bay Lodge. Meet the lodge managers for a brief orientation of the activities and lodge facilities. Check in to your private cabin overlooking Grace Ridge and Tutka Fjord. Plan your days with your guide so you can include all the goals you have for your time with us. Options include:

  • Kayaking in the Bay
  • Tide pooling
  • Hiking in Kachemak Bay State Park
  • Massage
  • Cooking class
  • Hot tub
  • Join in the stretch and yoga classes
  • Interpretive hike through an old growth forest

Luncheon is served at 1:00 p.m. in the main room. In the late afternoon, we offer a cooking class in the kitchen with the chefs, wine tasting and appetizers in the main lodge bar area, and dinner at 7:00 p.m. After dinner, there is an evening education program on Alaska in the main lodge or evening activities with the guides.

Choose between two adventure activities:

  • Join your guide for a day of bear-viewing on the Katmai Coast
  • Or, meet your boat captain for a day of deep sea fishing for salmon or halibut

After yoga and breakfast, you and your guide choose from a variety of activities:

  • Take a small walk through our private trail system.
  • Join your guide for a kayak tour of the area and exploration the abundant ocean life found in the Tutka Bay region.
  • Take the day to explore nearby Grewink glacier.

Morning yoga on the deck before breakfast is optional. After breakfast, catch the water taxi back to Homer. Maybe explore the artist community of Homer and enjoy lunch at our La Baleine Café.

  • Fly the Iditarod Trail by helicopter to the next checkpoint

If you are an earlier riser you can take advantage of the early morning serenity by observing our resident Swans and Loons on Winterlake by kayak or join the morning stretch class. Breakfast is served at 8am.

At 9am, join your guide for a hike to the saddle of Wolverine Ridge for stunning views of our valley. In the afternoon, kayak or canoe around the lake, enjoy the lakeside sauna or relax in the hammock.

After breakfast, board your floatplane to travel to Tutka Bay Lodge. It’s a scenic hour-plus flight through glaciers and views of Lake Clark National Park, and along the Kenai Coast. You will arrive right at the lodge dock.

Check into your room with a view of the Grace Ridge and Tutka fjord. Today, perhaps explore the artist’s community of Halibut Cove. Your guide will have suggestions. Nearly all guests at the lodge enjoy hiking in the Kachemak Bay State Park. Kirsten recommends visiting a nearby oyster farm.

Appetizers are served at 6:00 PM. Dinner at 7:00. Don’t forget to book your complimentary massage.

Morning yoga on the deck before breakfast is optional.

Today, join your guide for bear-viewing into Katmai National Park or along the Katmai Coast. Spend the day bear-viewing and return in the afternoon to Tutka Bay Lodge for more lodge-based adventures.

Or another option can be deep sea fishing for Halibut and Salmon. It’s your choice!

Today might be a day for a long exploratory sea kayak tour around the bay or, perhaps another expedition up Grace Ridge or just relaxing around the lodge soaking up the local scenery. It’s your choice. Don’t forget to join us in a yoga class or a massage before dinner.

Join an after dinner bonfire ocean-side to bid farewell to favorite guides and fellow travelers. Enjoy a Within the Wild tradition – homemade blueberry marshmallows with graham crackers freshly made by our lodge chefs.

After breakfast, you’ll meet your float plane for a one hour flight back to Anchorage.

Winter Adventure

10:00AM – the ski plane touches down on Finger Lake. You are greeted by lodge staff who will snow machine you across the
lake to the lodge. Staff will deliver your luggage to your cabin while you enjoy some homemade goodies and hot drinks
while you chat with the Lodge Manager about lodge orientation and what adventures you’d like to experience while in our
serene and beautiful wilderness.
11:30 – 1:00PM – winter adventure of your choosing
1:00PM – Luncheon is served n the mail lodge. Enjoy rustic fine-dining style inspired by owner/chef Kirsten Dixon. Our
cuisine is one of the main tenets we hang our hats on, so mealtime is especially delightful. Complimentary house wine and
other beverages offered with lunch and dinner courses.
2:30 – 5:00PM – Opt to relax and rest up for more adventures to come OR spend the afternoon in the dog lot with the sled
dogs or cross-country ski the trails around the lodge.
6:30PM – Social hour with appetizers and wine
7:00PM – Enjoy a multi-course meal, with wine pairing. (House wines and beer are complimentary, reserve wines available
for purchase)
8:30PM – Enjoy fellowship in the lodge with games and conversation, opt to hot tub or sauna or gear up to hunt aurora.

7:00AM: Morning yoga (optional).
8:30AM: Breakfast is served in the main lodge. After breakfast, greet the dog team and get ready to try your hand at
mushing – an exhilarating ride on the dog sled. Enjoy the crisp mountain air, alpenglow lighting, and the rhythm of the dogs
running on one of the most iconic trails in Alaska history.
Choose to invite a veteran of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race to the Lodge to recall stories of racing the trail, the highs and the
lows of the world’s most intense sled dog race.

Join the lodge managers at 6:30PM for a wine and cheese tasting, appetizers, local Alaskan brews and gourmet sodas.
Following dinner at 7:00PM, get geared up to experience intensely star-filled clear night skies (weather dependent) and
watch for the aurora borealis. Or relax in the hot tub or enjoy the wood-fired sauna.

8:00AM: Breakfast is served in the main lodge.
Today, expand your winter skills in our deep snowpack by learning to skijor, or driving a snowmachine (in Alaska, we say
“snowmachine”) to the top of Rainy Pass. Snowshoe or ski up the ridgelines for views of the Alaska Range; capture the
sensation of isolation amidst the grandeur of one of the world’s highest mountain ranges.
Return to the lodge for lunch at 1:00PM.
After lunch, enjoy your complimentary massage and join the afternoon stretch class. Spend the afternoon relaxing or
exploring with your guide, following stories of wolf, martin, moose, and lynx tracks through the woods.
6:30PM Join fellow guests for appetizers and wine and tell stories of the day’s adventures.
Dinner is served at 7:00PM. Spend the evening spotting Aurora Borealis while soaking in the cedar hot tub on the deck or
up on our viewing bluff. Opt to have an aurora expert on hand to explain forecasting techniques and aurora photography
tips.

7:00AM: Morning yoga (optional).
8:00AM: Breakfast is served in the main lodge.
Today, hop on the heli (use of a heli is a package add-on) for some backcountry exploration. Choose to bring some fat tire e-bikes to ride some ridge lines or opt
to go glacier trekking and ice cave exploring. On the flight back to the lodge, catch views of the massive surrounding
mountain peaks dusted in a rose pink and sherbet orange of alpenglow. Your day’s activity can be a half or full-day adventure. We cater to your sense of fun!  A lodge lunch is served at 1:00PM. If you choose to stay out in the field, our lodge chefs will prepare a hearty and delicious lunch to take with you.  The afternoon can be full of adventure or full of relaxation. It’s your choice!   6:30PM Appetizers and wine and storytelling. Dinner is served at 7:00PM.

8:00AM: Breakfast is served in the main lodge.
Today, hop on the heli (package add-on) for more backcountry exploration. The mountain views with curious snow formations make your adventures even more magical.
Return to the lodge for lunch at 1:00PM.
After lunch, enjoy your complimentary massage and join the afternoon stretch class or just curl up with a good book by the wood burning stove. Feeling competitive? Lodge staff will
set up a relay course on the lake for your choice of activity.
Dinner, carefully prepared by our Michelin-trained chefs, is served at 7:00PM. Spend the evening spotting Aurora Borealis while soaking in the cedar hot tub on the deck or
up on our viewing bluff.

7:00AM: Morning yoga (optional).
8:00AM: Breakfast is served in the main lodge. Bid your farewells to fellow travelers, favorite lodge employees, and resident
sled dogs. Before you depart enjoy one last ski around the lake or finish the last pages of your book. Do not forget to sign

11:00AM: Meet your ski plane on the lake for your return flight to Anchorage.
