Sample Itinerary

10:00 am: Board your ski plane at Lake Hood, the world’s largest small plane base located in Anchorage, Alaska.
You will fly northwest from Anchorage to Finger Lake where you will land on mile 198 of the historic Iditarod trail and
Winterlake Lodge. Along the way check out views of Cook Inlet, Mt. Denali, and the Tordrillo Mountains.
Upon arrival, our lodge managers will greet you with snow machines for a short drive across the lake from the runway.
While guides deliver your bags to your cabins, managers will give you a brief property orientation in the main lodge, and
over hot drinks and homemade treats will discuss your adventure goals and itinerary options. Examples for your Alaskan Winter Adventures include: Nordic skiing; snow shoeing; fat tire biking; snow machining; dog mushing or skijouring; sledding; massage; hot tub or wood fired sauna; yoga and restoration and cooking classes.
1:00pm: Lunch is served in the main lodge. Enjoy our rustic fine-dining style inspired by owner and Chef Kirsten
Dixon. Complimentary house wine and other beverages offered with lunch and dinner courses.
After lunch, join us for a snow machine or dog sled introduction course with Carl Dixon to “the sledding hill,” a remote
knoll overlooking Winterlake Valley. Enjoy an un-obscured view of Mt. Denali and the Alaska Range while we introduce
dog-sledding and the history of this regional activity. Head back to the warmth of the Main Lodge’s wood burning stove for
a cooking class with our lodge chefs.
6:30pm: Wine and appetizers are served.
After dinner, join chef Mandy Dixon for her famous ice cream social and mingle with race officials, veterinarians and
veteran Iditarod racers. Learn the history of the Iditarod while enjoying festive homemade ice cream, root beer floats and
handmade waffle cones.

7:00AM: Morning yoga (optional).
8:30AM: Breakfast is served in the main lodge.
After breakfast, sit on the deck or venture down to the lake to watch the dog teams arrive . Interact with handlers,
veterinarians, mushers and race dogs. After lunch enjoy lodge based activities.
6:30PM: wine and cheese tasting, appetizers, local Alaskan brews and gourmet sodas.

After breakfast, greet the dog team and get ready to try your hand mushing – an exhilarating ride on the dog sled. Enjoy
the crisp mountain air, alpenglow lighting, and the rhythm of the dogs running you down one of the most iconic trails in

6:30pm: Join the lodge managers for a wine and cheese tasting with appetizers
7:00PM: Relax in the hot tub or enjoy the wood fired sauna.

8:00AM: Breakfast is served in the main lodge. Bid your farewells to fellow travelers, favorite lodge employees, and resident sled dogs. Before you depart enjoy one last ski around the lake, or finish the last pages of your book. Don’t forget to

11:00AM: Meet your ski plane on the lake for your return flight to Anchorage.

Considerations

Winter Conditions: Winter travel can be subject to cold temperatures. We suggest coming dressed upon arrival for
winter activity. There will be a short snow machine ride from the ski plane to the Lodge. Please inquire for packing
suggestions if you have questions.
From January to April our guest cabins can not supply running water. Lodge staff will consistently replenish hot/cold
water for drinking and washing in your cabin. There are Biolet toilets in the cabins that operate like a standard toilet.
Running water is available in the main lodge, and guests may shower in the private bathroom.
Travel Insurance: Within the Wild cannot provide refunds for travel delays or cancellations including excursions
due to weather. We highly recommend the purchase of travel insurance.
Reservations: We require a 50% deposit to confirm your reservation. Balance is due 90 days prior to your arrival at the
lodge. A refund is available prior to 90 days arrival less a $200.00 per person administrative fee. Cancellations after 60
days are non-refundable regardless of the reason.
Arrivals and Departures: Typical travel time to the lodge is 9:00AM, custom travel times can be arranged on the day of
your arrival, but departure is required at 10:00AM on your last day.
Please note due to location remoteness there is limited access to communication allowing wilderness to be the main
experience. It is imperative we receive all special requests, dietary concerns, and health information before arrival.
