This is Who We Are
Authentic to place, ethical in detail
The Within the Wild Adventure Company was founded on Carl Dixon’s and his family’s vision of life lived close to the natural world. Thirty-plus years into their backcountry adventure, they are as enthusiastic and inspired by their surroundings as they were initially. And nothing gives them more pleasure than to share their Alaska dream.

A Very Special Place!
The service is extraordinary. Upon arrival, our personal experience guide met us at the dock. She was going to be with us for the five days we were there. She guided us on nature hikes, coordinated custom meals with the kitchen using native greens, went fishing with us, and was our guide for low tide exploring. The food is exceptional. The head chef, Nick, is skilled and creative in using native greens and local fish. Happy hour with wine and appetizers is amazing. You will gain a few pounds for sure. The view of the bay and surrounding mountains from our balcony was breathtaking. The activities are great. With the help of our experience guide, we went on nature hikes, kayaking in a glacier lake, hiking up to a waterfall, exploring tide pools during low tide, and fishing with local fisherman. We felt like part of the community!- TripAdvisor Member
Everything about TBL is first class. From the initial welcome on the pier to the final goodbye with the owner and staff. The hospitality and the “venues” on the property are quite amazing. I especially loved the sauna followed by the polar plunge into Tutka Bay. Food and beverage service outstanding, with an exceptional wine cellar. Enjoy!- TripAdvisor Member

WOW - To say this place is just like a rustic getaway is like saying Warren Buffet has a little money. Our experience was peerless in its perfection.- TripAdvisor Member
Otherworldly experience!July 2021
Holy mackerel! I'ts going to be hard to reel in the superlatives here. My wife and I spent three incredible days and nights here recently - and we're already looking forward to our return. We've traveled extensively, but Tutka Bay is without equal in every regard - setting, facilities, equipment, service, cuisine, personnel, recreational opportunities. We are complete food snobs - but were nevertheless astounded by the culinary freaking GENIUS of the chefs at Tutka! And get a load of this - they actually overnight the best cheeses you've ever eaten (for "cocktail hour") from a gourmet cheese shop in New York! I can honestly say that we felt like honored and privileged members of the family at Tutka Bay, thanks to the incredibly friendly, articulate, well-educated, proactive, amazing staffers - more than two to every guest - who took exceptional care of us. All other superlatives aside, these folks are the heart and soul of Tutka Bay. (Thanks to all - you know who you are!) This place is not inexpensive, but it's worth every dollar. If you can afford Tutka Bay, don't hesitate - this will be one of the most memorable and wonderful experiences of your life! We will most definitely return.- TripAdvisor Member
Tutka Bay Lodge is gorgeous - Staff are incredibleJuly 2021
Shout out to Hicham and Nick Wells, two of the best chefs we have met. One of the gems of both lodges is their culinary detail. Nick, Vinny and Jackie could work in New York Michelin restaurants.- Hello from Russia
